Etish has recently become an Add-In Provider member of the Eclipse Foundation. We thank the Foundation for accepting us into the fold and we are looking forward to a long and fruitful collaboration with the Foundation's family in particular and with the Eclipse community in general.
We are also very proud to announce that both Useme and its underlying framework, the Open Requirements Management Framework (or ORMF in short) have been recently accepted by the Eclipse Management Organisation as a public proposal for an Eclipse project.
ORMF is set to become the one missing piece in the rich puzzle of software development tools offered by the Eclipse ecosystem. In the words of Ian Skerrett, Director of Marketing at the Eclipse Foundation: "At Eclipse, we have a healthy collection of open source projects that span the entire software lifecycle, including modeling, test, development and even process methodologies. The one area where no one seemed interested in starting an open source project was requirements management. I was never sure why not but this might be now changing. A new proposal has been submitted to start the Open Requirements Management Framework (ORMF)...". A very stimulating beginning indeed!
"Useme represents a great effort towards a requirements management tool that eases the life of analysts in particular and development teams in general.", says Joel Rosi-Schwartz, ORMF's project lead. "If the proposal is successful, there will be no bounds to what we as a community clustered around ORMF can achieve. Our quite ambitious vision, enriched by the contributions of all members of the community, will be all realisable in very realistic time scales.". We are now actively seeking to gather such a vibrant and dynamic community around this project. We encourage any interested parties to peruse the proposal's web page and to comment on it. Further details are published on our website.
In order to offer a more concrete feel for what Useme (and therefore ORMF) is about, we have now provided two Flash movies that show Useme (and therefore the underlying ORMF) in action, with an illustration of the main features.
Finally we will be at the upcoming EclipseCon 2008 in Santa Clara, California, where we will be presenting Useme and hosting a Birds of a Feather (BoF) meeting, "Eclipse as a requirements management platform", where we will aim to share ideas, thoughts and approaches to the big issues surrounding ORMF. Any person that is planning to attend EclipseCon is warmly invited to get in touch with us to set up a time to discuss either Useme or ORMF in person. |
